Following their impactful showcase at Jakarta Fashion Week 2025’s Dewi Fashion Knights (DFK), Sejauh Mata Memandang has once again partnered with contemporary artist Eko Nugroho for an art exhibition titled “Republik Sebelah Mata” (One eyed republic). Running from February 20 to April 30, 2025, at The Space, Plaza Indonesia, the exhibition invites visitors to explore a fusion of art and fashion in an intimate and exploratory setting.
The collaboration features 25 fashion designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and rich in meaning, created in partnership with creative director and co-designer Felix Tjahyadi. Addressing social and political issues, the collection combines Eko Nugroho’s distinctive illustrations with Sejauh Mata Memandang’s iconic motifs, such as “Ayam,” “Bija,” “Wiji,” and “Onde.” A standout element is the peeking eye motif—a signature of Eko—that appears throughout the garments, adding a surreal touch to the pieces.
Visitors to the exhibition can explore various areas designed to enhance their experience of art and fashion. Before entering the main area, they can visit a pop-up store showcasing limited-edition hand-drawn batik fabrics, shawls, and scarves from the collaboration. The main space features mannequins adorned with the collaborative collection, set against a backdrop of Eko Nugroho’s curated paintings from ROH Gallery. Audiovisual effects further amplify the exhibition’s messages, particularly those concerning sustainability and environmental awareness—core values of Sejauh Mata Memandang.
Beyond aesthetics and strong conceptual themes, the exhibition emphasizes eco-friendly material innovation. Sejauh Mata Memandang remains committed to circularity principles by utilizing responsible materials and processes, collaborating with partners across Indonesia. Notably, over 50% of the materials used in this collection are sourced from upcycled deadstock fabrics from Sejauh Mata Memandang and Sharon Jap Atelier, underscoring a dedication to sustainability and reducing carbon footprints.
