Apple’s annual September event, “It’s Glowtime,” took place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park and, as anticipated, featured the unveiling of the latest iPhones and several other hardware updates. This year’s headliner was the iPhone 16 series, which included both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. The iPhone 16 comes with a 6.1-inch display, while the larger iPhone 16 Plus boasts a 6.7-inch screen. A notable update is the introduction of the customizable Action button, previously exclusive to Pro models. Both devices are powered by Apple’s A18 chip, enabling Visual Intelligence, a feature where users can point their camera at an object and receive educational information about it. New color options for this lineup include “Teal,” “Pink,” and “Ultramarine.”
Apple also introduced the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, featuring larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively. The Pro models come in sleek “Black,” “White,” “Natural,” and “Desert” colors. These advanced models are optimized for Apple’s new AI system, Apple Intelligence, unveiled earlier this year. Powered by the A18 Pro chip, the phones offer enhanced performance, and improved cameras, including a 12MP telephoto lens, and an ultrawide camera for better photography.
In addition to the phones, Apple launched the AirPods 4, featuring a familiar design but with a more comfortable fit. The new H2 chip promises better sound quality and spatial audio. Active noise cancellation is an optional upgrade for an additional cost.
On the wearable front, Apple revealed the Apple Watch Series 10, which is lighter, thinner, and features a larger, rounder screen that’s 40% brighter than before. The new model also integrates more health-focused features powered by Apple Intelligence, including a tool to test for sleep apnea. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 also received a refresh, now available in a “Satin Black” titanium finish, though no Ultra 3 was announced.
To cap off the event, The Weeknd announced a new single, “Dancing in the Flames,” from his upcoming album Hurry Up Tomorrow, which concludes his After Hours and Dawn FM trilogy. The music video for the single was shot entirely on the iPhone 16 Pro by director Anton Tammi and cinematographer Erik Henrikkson.
During the event, a behind-the-scenes clip showcased the use of 4K 120fps Dolby Vision on the iPhone 16 Pro, with Henrikkson praising the phone’s ability to capture both highlights and deep blacks under challenging lighting conditions. He noted that the iPhone’s performance in capturing contrast and detail exceeded his expectations, making it an appealing option for young filmmakers.
