Davido, Tyla, others among artists on 2024 Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Honor Roll

Nigeria’s music stars Davido and Lojay, along with South African Tyla, have been named among Billboard’s 2024 Honor Roll artists. This recognition celebrates their achievement of reaching No. 1 on the R&B, Rap, or Rhythmic charts, marking a significant impact on the music industry over the past year.

Billboard’s Honor Roll is part of its broader celebration of R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players, highlighting those who have elevated the genre to new heights. This year has seen a resurgence of R&B, with Usher’s Super Bowl performance being a notable indicator of the genre’s revival. Billboard recognized five standout artists who are shaping the future of R&B, including Usher, Victoria Monet, Lucky Daye, and the late Luther Vandross.

Among the honorees, Tyla made a remarkable impression, receiving the Global Impact Award for her hit song “Water.” The track dominated the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, holding the No. 1 spot for an impressive 44 weeks. “Water” also saw widespread success across multiple charts, peaking at No. 7 on the Hot 100, No. 6 on Pop Airplay, and topping both the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop and Rhythmic Airplay charts.

Billboard praised “Water” for its genre-blending sound, which resonated with a diverse global audience and pushed the boundaries of contemporary music. Tyla’s success with this track has solidified her as a pioneering force in both Afrobeats and R&B, continuing to influence the global music landscape with her distinctive style.
