Tyler, The Creator has kicked off the countdown to his new album CHROMAKOPIA, dropping on October 28, by giving fans another taste of what’s to come. Following the release of “ST. CHROMA” last week, the artist returned today with the visuals for “NOID,” a second pre-release track.
The moody, black-and-white video showcases Tyler pushing through a crowd, masked and on edge, while actress Ayo Edebiri—fresh off her Emmy win—appears as an obsessed fan. She initially races towards him with her phone, but things escalate as she is later seen holding a gun.
Tyler delivers raw bars filled with paranoia:
“I can’t even buy a home in private / Home invaders got my brothers dyin’ / Notice every car that’s drivin’ by / I think my neighbors want me dead / I got a cannon underneath the bed,” he raps with urgency. “Triple checkin’ if I lock the door / I know every creak that’s in the floor / Motherf**ker, I’m paranoid.”
With CHROMAKOPIA only days away, fans are bracing for what will undoubtedly be another genre-bending offering from the artist who hasn’t released a full project since 2021’s Grammy-winning CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. That album, known for its eclectic features from YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, and Pharrell Williams, was hailed as a masterpiece of fusion and innovation.
Tyler’s return to the scene coincides with his upcoming headlining slot at the 2024 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, set for November 16 and 17 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. This year’s festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary, boasts a stacked lineup including Playboi Carti, Sexyy Red, Denzel Curry, Doechii, ScHoolboy Q, and a special tribute to the legendary MF DOOM. Producers like Mustard and The Alchemist will also take the stage with exclusive sets.
The aesthetics of Tyler’s latest project seem to pull from a retro vibe, as noted by Gregory Ferrand, the artist behind CHROMAKOPIA’s artwork. “Tyler came to me with this rough sketch, and he nailed it,” Ferrand said. “It feels very early 1960s, which is right in line with my aesthetic approach.”
