Mark your calendars—January 24, 2025 is the day The Weeknd, drops Hurry Up Tomorrow, his sixth studio album and the final act in his celebrated trilogy. The project, arriving via XO and Republic Records, follows the dark allure of After Hours (2020) and the ethereal grooves of Dawn FM (2022).
Fans have already been teased with three singles from the record: the reflective “Dancing in the Flames,” the pulsating “Timeless” featuring Playboi Carti, and the sultry “São Paulo” alongside Brazilian icon Anitta. “Timeless” has already stormed the charts, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October.
The rollout has been nothing short of cinematic. In September, The Weeknd premiered tracks from Hurry Up Tomorrow during a sold-out one-night-only concert at São Paulo’s Estádio MorumBIS. The momentum carried into October with massive shows in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as a headlining slot at Las Vegas’ iHeartRadio Music Festival.
But Tesfaye isn’t just delivering an album. The record shares its name with Hurry Up Tomorrow, a psychological thriller he co-wrote, scored, and starred in. Directed by Trey Edward Shults and featuring Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, the film will be soundtracked by Tesfaye and frequent collaborator Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never).
This release carries more weight than any before it. In a 2023 interview with W Magazine, Tesfaye revealed this would likely be his final outing as The Weeknd. “I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually,” he said. “This album is my last hurrah. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”
As the world prepares to bid farewell to the enigmatic persona that reshaped pop and R&B, Tesfaye’s January 24 release promises to close this chapter with a bang.
