Just in time for Halloween, the Weekend drops a chilling visual for his latest track, “São Paulo,” featuring Brazilian megastar Anitta.
Directed by the visionary FREEKA, the video is an exploration of dark surrealism.
Anitta commands attention, cast in a haunting role as a pregnant character with a mind-bending twist there’s a face pushing from within her belly, spotlighting the horror aesthetics to perfection.
This release speaks volume of the Weeknd’s reign on Spotify, where he’s pulling in about 120 million monthly listeners.
His recent hits are all over the Billboard Hot 100, with the Playboi Carti collaboration “Timeless,” produced by Pharrell Williams, breaking into the top 3, and “Dancing in the Flames” riding high on the charts.
Just last month, he took São Paulo by storm with a packed-out concert, pulling in crowds and viewers worldwide through a live stream on YouTube.
Melodic techno maestro Anyma joined him as one of the creative directors, and the result was splendid.
