THE RISING SOUND OF AFRICA AT COACHELLA 2025

Coachella 2025 is so close already!!

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival for 2025 is set to take place over two weekends: from April 11th to 13th and then from April 18th to 20th, next year, and the event is set to take place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, where it has been hosted every year since its inception in 1999.

The lineup for Coachella 2025 has generated significant excitement, as it features a wide range of talented artists who have made distinguished names for themselves through their art. Headliners include international superstars like Lady Gaga, Post Malone, and Travis Scott, as well as the legendary American rock band Green Day. Other prominent names on the bill include Missy Elliott, Charli XCX, Megan Thee Stallion, and Ty Dolla $ign, among others. The festival will also feature rising stars, such as Benson Boone and Shaboozey, who gained significant buzz and attention in the year as a result of extremely successful hit songs that they released.

In addition to the global stars, Coachella 2025 will showcase an impressive array of African talent. These artists, known for their global influence and artistic excellence, will bring their unique sounds to the festival, marking a significant moment for the global music scene. Among the headlining performers are Nigerian star Rema, Ghana’s Amaarae, South Africa’s Tyla, and Nigerian Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti, the son and protégé of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Tyla, known for her infectious dancehall and Afrobeats influences, gained worldwide recognition with her breakout hit “Water,” which earned her a Grammy Award.

For Rema, one of the biggest names in Afrobeats today, this will be his Coachella debut. His meteoric rise, highlighted by chart-topping singles like “Calm Down,” has made him a global ambassador for the genre, and his performance is expected to draw significant attention, particularly given his widespread popularity and charismatic stage presence.

Amaarae, renowned for her ethereal blend of Afropop and alternative sounds, represents the diverse musical landscape of Ghana and she will bring her unique alté style to Coachella 2025, captivating the festival audience with her distinctive sound.

Seun Kuti’s return to Coachella with his band, Egypt 80, will mark his third appearance at the festival, continuing his father’s Afrobeat legacy. His performance, like all the others before, will effortlessly tap into the roots of Afrobeat music, as he offers the audience a glimpse into the original form of the genre that has since evolved into the global Afrobeats phenomenon.

Indeed, other African and Nigerian artists have made waves at Coachella in recent years, with standout performances from Burna Boy, Tems, and Uncle Waffles amongst others.

Certainly, the 2025 edition promises to build on this momentum, further highlighting the growing presence of African music at major global events and drawing attention to the richness and variety of the continent’s sound.

With artists like these representing Africa at Coachella, the festival will not only showcase mainstream international acts but also celebrate the diverse, vibrant, and increasingly influential music emerging from the African continent.
