Tesla has officially unveiled its long-anticipated Cybercab, an all-electric, fully autonomous robotaxi, at the “I, Robot” event in Los Angeles.
The vehicle is designed to operate without a steering wheel or pedals, controlled entirely by Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software.
The Cybercab has butterfly doors and a minimalist interior featuring a single 20-inch center screen for passengers. It is expected to start at $30,000 and will be available to the general public, not just fleet operators.
Production is projected to begin between 2026 and 2027, with initial rollouts planned in autonomous-friendly regions like Texas and California.
Tesla’s vision is for these robotaxis to significantly reduce transportation costs and improve safety by being “20 times safer than human-driven cars” according to Elon Musk. However, there are still concerns about whether Tesla can meet its ambitious production and safety goals, as its FSD software continues to require active human oversight.
