Spotify to Launch Special 64th Independence Playlist

Spotify has rolled out a special soundtrack, “The Sound of Hope,” in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day. Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, shared the announcement in Lagos, emphasizing that the initiative highlights Nigeria’s vast musical legacy, which has long been a source of national pride and unity.

The “Sounds of Nigeria” campaign, launched by Spotify from September 29 to October 3, offers a deep dive into the country’s vibrant music scene. The campaign features curated music collections within the Afro and Afrobeat hubs, allowing listeners to explore different aspects of Nigerian music.

These collections include “Good Old Naija Days,” which showcases classic hits from legendary Nigerian musicians, taking listeners on a nostalgic journey through timeless tracks. “Naija No Dey Carry Last” celebrates Nigeria’s resilient spirit through inspirational songs, while “Naija New School” highlights the freshest new talents and trends shaping the industry.

Additionally, Spotify collaborates with Justin UG, a popular DJ and content creator, for a takeover of the “Internet Famous Playlist,” introducing audiences to new Nigerian sounds and perspectives. Two new playlists, “Naija Gospel Throwback” and “Nigerian Highlife,” will also debut, celebrating the diversity of Nigeria’s musical traditions.

Spotify’s campaign honors Nigeria’s cultural heritage and its contribution to the global music landscape, amplifying the sounds and stories that resonate worldwide.
