SKEPTA’S TRIBAL MARK FILM PREMIERE DRAWS BIG NAMES AT AFRIFF

the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos, Nigerian-British rapper and producer Skepta premiered his debut short film, Tribal Mark. This powerful coming-of-age film marks Skepta’s entry into directing and co-directing alongside Dwight Okechukwu.

Known primarily for his influence on the UK grime music scene, Skepta, real name Joseph Adenuga, brings his personal experiences as an immigrant to the film, which follows the journey of a young Nigerian navigating life and identity in a foreign land.

The premiere attracted notable guests, including Idris Elba, and celebrated diversity with a predominantly minority ethnic cast and production crew.

Skepta expressed his hopes for Tribal Mark to resonate deeply with immigrant communities and hinted at an expanding cinematic universe focusing on the “Black Secret Service.” The project is envisioned as a platform to highlight Black heroes and the challenges of diaspora identity, potentially leading to future films and TV series

The night’s festivities also featured music from the film, with a DJ set and performances by Skepta, ODUMODUBLVCK, and Idris Elba, contributing to the evening’s energetic atmosphere.
