When two of Nigeria’s most groundbreaking artists hint at a potential collaboration, the anticipation is nothing short of electric. Rema, the global Afrobeat sensation, and Santi, the enigmatic trailblazer of Nigeria’s alté movement, have recently sparked conversations about working together–a union that could bridge two of the most innovative genres in contemporary African music. The rumored collaboration between these two icons is one of the most exciting prospects for 2025 with two tracks; Sexy Whiner and 2TOO FAR, in the works.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2019 with his breakout single “Dumebi,” Rema has redefined the Afrobeat landscape. Signed to Mavin Records and Jonzing World, the Benin-born artist has become a global phenomenon, blending traditional Afrobeat rhythms with other genres and pioneering a new sub genre of music–Afro-rave, a genre he has popularized worldwide.

In 2023, he made history with “Calm Down,” a track that became a viral sensation and earned him collaborations with international stars like Selena Gomez and in 2024, he released his sophomore album, “HEIS” which made ground breaking achievements especially with stand out tracks like, Ozeba. Santi, also known as Cruel Santino, is a quintessential figure in Nigeria’s alté movement, a subculture that celebrates individuality and experimental artistry. Known for his genre-defying sound, Santi fuses elements of Afrobeat, dancehall, punk, and R&B into a kaleidoscope of sonic innovation. While he’s been on a musical hiatus since 2023 when he released his last EP “Cincinnati Pumpin!!,” he seems to have some proper plans for the new year.
