OSCARS 2025: ‘ANORA’ WINS BIG, ZOE SALDAÑA MAKES HISTORY, AND ADAM SANDLER STEALS THE SHOW

The 97th Academy Awards, held on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, celebrated a year of remarkable cinematic achievements. Hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, the evening was filled with memorable moments, groundbreaking wins, and a few unexpected surprises.

“Anora,” directed by Sean Baker, emerged as the night’s biggest winner, securing five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Baker, and Best Actress for Mikey Madison. This triumph underscored the film’s profound impact on audiences and critics alike.

Adrien Brody delivered a powerful performance in “The Brutalist,” earning him the Best Actor award. His portrayal resonated deeply, marking his second Oscar win and reaffirming his status as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors.

In a historic moment, Zoe Saldaña won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in “Emilia Pérez.” Her role in the film showcased her exceptional range and dedication to her craft, making this accolade a significant milestone in her career. Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for his role in “A Real Pain.” His portrayal of Benji, a chaotic yet endearing character, earned him widespread acclaim. During his acceptance speech, Culkin humorously reminded his wife, Jazz Charton, of their agreement to have a fourth child if he won an Oscar, saying, “Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you.”  This win marked Culkin’s first Oscar, following a series of accolades for his performance.

The ceremony wasn’t without its lighter moments. Adam Sandler made headlines by attending the Oscars in his signature casual attire—a bright blue oversized hoodie and basketball shorts. Host Conan O’Brien playfully addressed Sandler’s outfit during his opening monologue, leading to a humorous exchange that delighted the audience and highlighted Sandler’s unique charm.
