Nigerian Filmmaker Partners NBA Star Joel Embiid, and LeBron James for New Documentary

Nigerian filmmaker, Editi Effiong, in collaboration with NBA All-Star Joel Embiid’s production company, Miniature Géant, has teamed up with LeBron James’ empowerment brand, Uninterrupted, to unveil “Backline,” an inspiring new narrative film about African athletes.

The movie features the themes of zeal and motivation, illustrating how African athletes chase their dreams of playing professional American football.

Speaking on the project, Editi said, “Backline” is a story about the undefeatable strength of the human spirit, of hope, of friendship, and a drive to rise above one’s difficulties. From the moment I spoke to the young athletes who made the journey to play football in the U.S., telling this story has been a sweet obsession. We are excited to welcome Joel Embiid, Miniature Géant and Uninterrupted to this exciting project that will inspire audiences worldwide.”

The movie is based on the real stories of current NFL players and follows two Nigerian friends as they strive to make it into professional football in America. The film is written and directed by Editi Effiong. The production filming is scheduled to commence in 2025, with production taking place in both Nigeria and the United States.

NBA star Joel Embiid started a new movie and TV production company called Miniature Géant in 2023. He partnered with LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s production company, SpringHill.
