NIGERIAN DESIGNER BREAKS RECORD WITH LONGEST GARMENT SLEEVES

At just 27 years old, Samuel Chinecherem Ezeh, a fashion design student from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Nigeria, has sewn his name into fashion history. He designed and hand-stitched the longest sleeves on a garment, measuring an astonishing 51.20 meters (167.97 ft), longer than the height of the Statue of Liberty and stretching beyond the length of a standard Olympic swimming pool.

This record-setting feat took place in Onitsha, Anambra State, earning official recognition from Guinness World Records.

To bring this extraordinary design to life, Samuel used 62 yards of jampard fabric—2 yards for the robe’s body and a staggering 60 for the sleeves. Despite serious setbacks, like two sewing machine needles breaking during the attempt, he powered through with his supervisor’s help and finished the garment in less than four hours.

Funding the project was also a feat of determination. Without sponsorship, Samuel personally covered 70% of the expenses.

Reflecting on his accomplishment, Samuel shared his joy and aspirations: “When I got the Guinness confirmation, I danced and screamed, it was surreal. I want to take it on tour, showcasing it around the world.”
