NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: WIZKID’S MORAYO CELEBRATES SONIC EXCELLENCE

Morayo is out! Finally!! And what an album it is.

After months of palpable anticipation, carefully cultivated by Wizkid himself and fueled by his energetic and extremely supportive fans, his sixth studio album was released this morning.

It is a stellar project, a masterclass in what a music project should be, as it explores a rich variety of sounds, seamlessly blending Fuji, R&B, Dancehall, and our beloved Afrobeats most creatively. Wizkid once again proves that he is an artist with boundless talent, effortlessly retaining his signature singing pattern and style even while delving into these diverse genres.

The 16-track album includes previously released singles like Piece of My Heart featuring Brent Faiyaz, which was released in October, and Kese (Dance), which dropped just last week. The album begins with Troubled Mind, a heartfelt track in which Wizkid speaks of his pain and expresses how deeply he misses his late mother, the inspiration behind the album’s title.

The song begins with a Fuji-styled intro before transitioning into a groovy Afrobeats rhythm.

On Bad Girl, Asake’s signature vocals set the stage for the second collaboration between these two exceptional artists this year.

The result is an irresistible blend of their distinct sounds, culminating in a catchy chorus guaranteed to get listeners moving. Wizkid also ventures into the realm of French serenades with Après Minuit, where French singer Tiakola brings a dash of chanson française magic to the project.

Jazmine Sullivan’s powerful, velvety voice joins Wizkid’s on Bad for You, delivering a track that is nothing short of dangerous in its allure. Another standout feature comes from French-Gabonese R&B artist Anaïs Cardot, whose soft, soothing vocals pair with Wizkid’s on Slow to create something truly soulful and sweet.

Wizkid’s solo tracks on Morayo are equally captivating. From Karamo to Time to Break Me Down, Bend, A Million Blessings, Soji, Don’t Care, Lose, and Pray, the artist showcases his versatility and artistry in every song. Big Wiz has poured his heart and soul into this project, and it’s evident in the impeccable quality of each track.

A die-hard fan and music enthusiast summed it up perfectly: “Morayo is a complete body of work that showcases Wizkid’s musical evolution over the years.

It captures every era of his career, and with its incredible replay value, it’s bound to break and set records.”

Indeed, it may be too early to conclude, but this fan’s sentiments are already being validated.

Within just eight hours of its release, Morayo shattered records, becoming one of the fastest projects to reach the number one spot on Apple Music in both Nigeria and the UK. AMAZING!

Of the album’s 16 tracks, 14 were produced by the genius P2J, whose expert touch amplifies Wizkid’s creative and exploratory instincts.

Ace producer P. Prime also brought his unique flair to the track Soji, while other talented producers such as Ari Pensmith, AoD, Marco Bernardis, Gaetan Judd, DAMEDAME, and The Elements also left their mark on this groundbreaking project.

In Morayo, Wizkid offers more than music–he delivers an experience, a celebration of his artistry, and a testament to his evolution. It’s not just an album; it’s a legacy in the making.
