Hard Guy Confessions EP – Johnny Drille and Don Jazzy

You know you’re in for something sweet, something melodic, something sensational whenever Johnny Drille, the adept artist, joins forces with the legendary Don Jazzy.

 Time and again, they’ve proven their chemistry with remarkable collaborations like Ova, Believe Me, and How Are You (My Friend). Each track showcases the seamless harmony that can emerge from two distinct and unique voices.

This past Wednesday, the duo blessed us with a sumptuous musical buffet, and we couldn’t be more delighted. Why wouldn’t we be? It’s JD and DJ delivering seven masterful musical pieces. Delight is an understatement.  

Johnny Drille cements his position as the “hopeless romantic president” with this project, diving deep into the intricacies of love in its many dimensions. His ability to capture the highs, lows, and emotional extremes that define love is truly remarkable. It’s no surprise that he resonates with listeners of all ages and backgrounds, crafting music that speaks to the heart of humanity.  

Then there’s Don Jazzy. A veteran artist, Afrobeat legend, and the mastermind behind MAVIN Records, arguably Nigeria’s most successful record label. His distinct and powerful voice, a hallmark of his prime, continues to shine. On this EP, his vocals add a captivating dynamism and flair to each track, elevating the project to a richly adorned sonic masterpiece.

The EP explores a wide emotional palette, from It Hurts So Bad which delves into the gut-wrenching agony of ruining a beautiful relationship with an incredible person, to any way that is a heartfelt reminder of love’s promise to endure through life’s changes, no matter the circumstances.  

Hold Me offers a tender appreciation of a loved one’s embrace, and Spending emphasizes using one’s resources to express affection.  

Believe Me unveils a man’s unwavering love for a woman, culminating in his resolve to introduce her to his family, while How Are You emphasizes the essence of true friendship, encouraging us to nurture and cherish those connections.  

Finally, the EP concludes with Peace of Mind, a soulful reminder to guard one’s tranquility and trust that everything meant for you will arrive in its own time.

“Hard Guy Confessions” is a melodic masterpiece that thoughtfully explores crucial aspects of human nature. 

With rhythmic beat patterns that perfectly complement the themes of each song, the EP strikes a delicate balance between depth, vibrancy, and sheer enjoyability.

Kese (Dance) – Wizkid

In anticipation of his sixth studio album Morayo, set to drop on the 22nd of this month, Starboy Wizzy has released a second single from the project, Kese (Dance). 

If the aim of this release was to heighten anticipation, it has done so with resounding success. The fervor and excitement among fans have reached fever pitch, leaving no room for patience.

 Many have voiced their restlessness, with one fan dramatically pleading, “Popsy, abeg now. Just release this thing, I no fit dey alright until I hear this album.”

On this track, Wizkid masterfully showcases his virtuosity and proficiency, delivering an electrifying song that is both engaging and thrilling from start to finish. 

Through simple, singable lyrics and an irresistibly catchy chorus, Big Wiz has crafted a party anthem primed to dominate playlists and set dance floors ablaze.

Innocent – Mayorkun featuring Fireboy DML

Former DMW signee and renowned Afrobeat artist Mayorkun has dropped a sizzling new single, Innocent. 

The track effortlessly showcases the expertise of Mayorkun alongside the undeniable talent of featured YBNL ace, Fireboy DML.  

Mayorkun has always been known for his ability to hit all the right notes, with a voice often described as honey-sweet. On Innocent, he doesn’t hold back, weaving his lyrics melodically and leaving listeners captivated. 

His sonorous delivery finds the perfect balance with Fireboy’s smooth and mellifluous vocals, creating a rhythm-packed song that feels almost too sweet. Luckily, in music, there’s no such thing as “too sweet.”  

The track exudes unapologetic bad-boy energy, as both artists assert that they are far from innocent and are ready to get down and bad.

 The up-tempo yet soothing beat, produced by the talented Speroach, breathes life into the song with its seamless flow.

Toma Toma – Ruger & Tiwa Savage

Super-talented hitmaker Ruger teams up with Afrobeats virtuoso Tiwa Savage to release a stirring new single, Toma Toma, this Friday morning, and the buzz already surrounding it is well-deserved.  

The song’s sound is refreshingly unique, boasting a disruptive, attention-grabbing beat pattern that hooks you from the first note. While it retains its Afrobeats essence, it veers into uncharted territory, showcasing an audacious energy that perfectly aligns with Ruger’s bold persona. 

Fans are ecstatic, flooding social media with praise like, “Jesussssss, this man called Ruger never disappoints. Thank you very much, Ruger!” and *”We needed a different sound, and Ruger came through!”

What truly sets the track apart is Ruger’s velvety vocals as he effortlessly transitions from English to Portuguese–a bold move that adds depth and charm to the song. His linguistic versatility, even in a non-native tongue, is nothing short of impressive.

Adanna – Taves, Boypee, Hyce, and Brown Joel

This Friday morning, four exceptional artists–Taves, Boypee, Hyce, and Brown Joel, blessed our ears with Adanna, a single that embodies sonic brilliance.

 The track’s vocal diversity sets it apart, with each artist contributing uniquely distinct yet harmoniously complementary vocals. 

This interplay of styles creates a fusion of sound that captivates in a way that only variety can.  

Taves opens the song with a stellar verse, seamlessly anchoring the soothing, sweet chorus which is a captivating blend of Nigerian Pidgin and Igbo. 

Together, the artists weave a compelling narrative about Adanna, a femme fatale who masterfully juggles the affections of multiple men, all of them included. While united in their subject, each artist delivers their perspective, presenting a distinctive perspective to Adanna’s heart-damaging spree.  

 

The raw emotion coursing through the track is undeniable. Each angle of Adanna’s tale is rendered with such expressive depth and emotive nuance that the song serves as a showcase of the immense talent assembled for this collaboration.
