Naomi Campbell Stuns at British Fashion Council 40th Anniversary

Naomi Campbell and David Gandy joined Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy at Number 10 Downing Street to celebrate 40 years of London Fashion Week. The event, held on Monday, brought together major figures from the fashion world, including designers such as Paul Smith, Ozwald Boateng, David Koma, and Zandra Rhodes, along with representatives from top brands like Burberry, Stella McCartney, and Victoria Beckham.

The reception, hosted by Lisa Nandy, highlighted the impact of fashion on the economy, with Sir Keir Starmer addressing its significant contributions. Several attendees represented the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN scheme, which supports emerging designers during London Fashion Week. Notable fashion figures who got their start through NEWGEN include Alexander McQueen, JW Anderson, Martine Rose, and Grace Wales Bonner.

 

Lisa Nandy praised the UK’s longstanding influence globally, citing iconic designers like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. She emphasized that the industry’s constant innovation drives trends that resonate worldwide. She also noted the growing economic importance of fashion, currently valued at nearly £30 billion annually and employing around 800,000 people. Nandy expressed the Government’s ambition to further expand the sector, aiming to foster growth in all regions of the UK, from designers to textile manufacturers and retailers.
