Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu has secured her spot on The Hollywood Reporter’s 2024 list of “Most Powerful Women in International Television.”
Abudu stands out as the only African woman to be recognized in this prestigious circle.
Taking to Instagram, Abudu expressed her gratitude and reflected on the importance of breaking free from the limitations of “tokenism” that still plague Black content in the industry.
She highlighted the imbalance in opportunities offered to shows with Black characters versus their white counterparts, calling for more inclusion and equity in global storytelling.
This year’s list reflects the necessary changes sweeping through the television industry worldwide, with powerful women like Abudu at the helm, steering the ship through these challenging times.
Joining her on this exclusive list are other heavyweights like Saudi Arabia’s Zeinab Abu Alsamh (GM, MBC Studios), Amazon Studios’ Javiera Balmaceda, and Disney’s Carol Choi, all representing diverse regions and playing crucial roles in shaping the future of television.
