Metro Boomin and Future are front and center on the cover of GQ’s Men of the Year issue, where they open up about their personal lives, music, and recent controversies.
In an interview with GQ, Metro addressed the fallout between him and Drake, which he described as deeply personal. “It wasn’t about a girl or anything trivial like that,” he explained. “It was something personal that hurt me and disappointed me.”
The hit producer likened the situation to everyday friendships that experience conflict. “If you strip away the rap and entertainment, it’s just two people who fell out over something,” he said. “It happens all the time—it’s just that this one has an audience.”
Metro dismissed claims that his two collaborative albums with Future, We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, were designed to target Drake. “People really think we spent two years making albums just to diss somebody? That’s crazy,” he said, calling such theories “serious hate” and “ridiculous.”
While Metro admitted to tweeting about the situation in frustration, he expressed regret. “That was out of character for me,” he said. “I don’t rap, so when someone’s calling me out in songs, I felt like I had to respond somehow.”
Future, on the other hand, seemed unfazed by the feud. “There was a beef? I didn’t even know about it,” he said with a smirk during the interview. He added that he’s never been one to engage in rap battles, brushing off the situation entirely.
The rapper also voiced his confusion over being overlooked in discussions about hip-hop’s “Big Three,” sparked by Kendrick Lamar’s bold claims on the song “Like That,” where he called out Drake and J. Cole. “I’m supposed to be mad about that,” Future said. “But I stayed quiet. If I didn’t make a big deal out of it, why should anyone else?”
Despite Future’s nonchalant stance, tensions remain unresolved between Drake and his former collaborators. Earlier this month, DJ Akademiks reported that sources close to the artists confirmed that Drake and Future have yet to reconcile.
Metro and Future’s candid conversation in GQ provides fans with a closer look at their lives beyond the music, making their Men of the Year feature a must-read.
