The 2025 Met Gala theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating the sartorial history of Black dandies, slated for Monday, May 5, 2025.
This spectacular event brings to light the uniqueness of tailoring, suits, and designs inspired by Black history, from traditional African fashion to modern works by Virgil Abloh and Pharrell Williams.
The Star Co-Chairs
All the co-chairs for the event will be men, specifically men known for their style. Renowned producer Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Anna Wintour will lead the style parade, with Lebron James, who doubles as a first-timer, will stand in as an honorary co-chair.
*The Exhibit*
“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” explores the Black dandy archetype, tracing its roots to 18th-century America. The show features clothing, photography, paintings, and film excerpts highlighting Black identities and fashion.
Meanwhile, Andrew Bolton and Monica Miller, author of Slaves to Fashion, team up to showcase 150 pieces from BIPOC designers acquired by the Costume Institute in 2020.
For the dress code, details are still sketchy. However, the theme has its roots in black celebration; thus, expect a mix of classic and modern styles inspired by Black dandyism.
This 2025 Met Gala promises to be a celebration of Black style and culture, with some of the most stylish men leading the charge.
