MAISON MARGIELA AND LOUBOUTIN UNVEILS TWO CAPSULE COLLECTION

In a groundbreaking collaboration, French luxury houses Maison Margiela and Christian Louboutin have unveiled two capsule shoe collections set to debut on March 12, 2025. This partnership, which has been the subject of much anticipation since its initial tease during Maison Margiela’s Spring/Summer 2024 Haute Couture show, brings together the avant-garde aesthetics of Margiela and the iconic red-soled elegance of Louboutin. 

The collaboration comprises two distinct lines: “Maison Margiela by Christian Louboutin” and “Christian Louboutin by Maison Margiela.” The former reimagines Margiela’s signature Tabi design through Louboutin’s lens, resulting in curvaceous, feminine silhouettes that include pumps, sandals, and ballerina flats. Notable pieces such as the Bridiela Una Strass and the Loubiella feature materials like patent leather and mesh, adorned with handcrafted crystals, seamlessly blending both brands’ design philosophies. 

Conversely, the “Christian Louboutin by Maison Margiela” collection takes classic Louboutin styles and infuses them with Margiela’s deconstructionist approach. Techniques from Margiela’s Artisanal atelier, such as “decortiqué,” which involves reducing a garment or accessory to its skeletal form, are prominently featured. The Bilougiela 25, for instance, is an elongated, pointed ankle-strap sandal inspired by Louboutin’s Kate Max design, showcasing a fusion of sleek patent black leather with raw, deconstructed elements characteristic of Margiela’s aesthetic. 

This collaboration also marks a significant milestone in the longstanding friendship between John Galliano, former creative director of Maison Margiela, and Christian Louboutin. Having first crossed paths four decades ago, this project represents their first comprehensive joint venture, combining Galliano’s innovative designs with Louboutin’s renowned craftsmanship.
