John Boyega is teaming up with Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji for an upcoming film. Boyega, known for his role in Star Wars, has long admired Nnaji’s work.
At the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) panel, Boyega praised Nnaji, calling her “the Nollywood actress who inspired me. She is my favourite Nollywood actress.” He credited her, along with Omotola Jalade, as influences from his childhood.
Boyega commended Nnaji’s subtle and versatile acting style, noting her ability to convey deep emotions without overstating. “To me, I feel her acting ability could transcend any type of filmmaking… she doesn’t always have to say much. And I think the film is a different medium…
The film is intimate.” While project details remain scarce, Boyega confirmed discussions are underway. “I have also spoken to Genevieve and we are starring her,” he revealed, hinting at a Hollywood-Nollywood fusion.
This collaboration signals a cross-cultural endeavour, merging Boyega’s Nigerian heritage with his Hollywood experience.
