Cartoon Network and Max recently premiered the trailer for Iyanu, an animated series inspired by Nigerian mythology, during the New York Comic Con 2024.
Adapted from Roye Okupe’s graphic novel Iyanu: Child of Wonder, the show follows Iyanu, a teenage girl who unknowingly taps into ancient powers to protect her homeland from a rising evil.
The story, deeply rooted in Yoruba culture, unfolds as Iyanu learns about her heritage and discovers her role in fighting against dark forces with the help of her friends, Biyi and Toye.
The show’s talented Nigerian voice cast includes Serah Johnson as Iyanu, Okey Jude as Biyi, Samuel Kugbiyi as Toye, and other well-known voices like Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Stella Damasus, and Shaffy Bello. Created in collaboration with Lion Forge Entertainment, the series will air in Spring 2025 on Cartoon Network and Max in the U.S. and stream exclusively on Showmax in 44 African countries.
This unique production celebrates African narratives, mythology, and art on an international stage, adding fresh diversity to animated content.
