Daniel Kaluuya Honored with Leicester Square Statue

Oscar-winning actor Daniel Kaluuya now has a statue in Leicester Square, celebrating his role in the psychological horror film “Get Out.”

Kaluuya topped a public poll to join the “Scenes in the Square” trail, featuring legendary stars like Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, and Batman.

The statue captures a scene from “Get Out,” where Kaluuya’s character, Chris Washington, is hypnotized and trapped in “the Sunken Place.” Kaluuya expressed gratitude, saying, “It’s amazing that they managed to capture it… I really love that the statue is dynamic.”

“Get Out” grossed over £190 million, becoming the highest-grossing debut film based on an original script in Hollywood history. The film’s impact on the representation of Black people’s experiences has been profound.

Kaluuya’s success in “Get Out” led to roles in “Black Panther” and an Oscar-winning performance in “Judas and the Black Messiah.” The Londoner, who began his career writing for Channel 4’s “Skins,” has also made his directorial debut with “The Kitchen,” BBC reports.

When asked if he’s more Hollywood than London, Kaluuya replied, “London is me, I am London, I really come from here.” Kaluuya joins other iconic figures in Leicester Square’s “Scenes in the Square” trail, solidifying his place in cinematic history.

Daniel Kaluuya is a talented British actor, writer, and director born to Ugandan parents. He’s best known for his iconic roles in “Get Out” (2017), “Black Panther” (2018), and “Judas and the Black Messiah” (2021), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor
