CHRIS BROWN THRILLS SOUTH AFRICA IN EPIC BREEZY BOWL CONCERT

This past weekend, Chris Brown delivered an unforgettable experience during his highly anticipated South African concert, BREEZY BOWL, on December 14 and 15, 2024, at Johannesburg’s iconic FNB Stadium. Known for its massive capacity, the venue, Africa’s biggest stadium, has a holding capacity for 94,736 people. He sold it out TWICE, completely filling it with fans on both days, marking one of the largest audiences of Brown’s career.

The demand for tickets was so overwhelming that a second date was added after the first sold out within hours. Fans were treated to an electrifying blend of music, dance, and theatrics as Chris Brown performed a setlist spanning two decades of hits, and well over fifty songs including crowd favorites like “No Air,”  “New Flame,” “Back to Sleep,” “Heat,” and “Take You Down.”

Certainly though his performances wouldn’t have been complete without the more recent stellar tracks like Under The Influence and Angel Numbers/Ten Toes–tracks that have stood out so starkly from his expansive catalogue of songs from his many albums. From 11:11 through Breezy to Indigo and beyond, the oh-so-good music was never ending.

His performance also included jaw-dropping and extremely daring aerial stunts done above the massive crowd and multiple outfit changes that celebrated different eras of his musical journey.

Performing alongside Chris during the course of the event were Nigerian afrobeats sensation, Lojay and afrobeats Megastar, Davido with whom he performed their 2023 hit collaboration, Sensational. With Lojay, he performed the remix of Lojay’s breakout single, Monalisa featuring Chris Brown. With Davido, he performed their 2019 hit, Blow My Mind. During the course of the show, Davido got to take center stage, performing standout tracks off his last album, Timeless, including Feel and then Unavailable which he performed alongside Musa Keys and Chris Brown.

Social media buzzed with excitement, as attendees praised the concert for its production quality, describing it as “Super Bowl-level entertainment.” Fans sang along to every song, cementing their admiration for the artist, with many making videos where they declared the night to be their best, EVER.

Chris Brown expressed his gratitude to the roaring crowd, calling the experience a defining moment in his career. However, the event was not without its challenges. A petition of over 31,000 signatures had surfaced ahead of the concerts, protesting his past actions, yet the enthusiasm from his fanbase completely overshadowed the controversy with so many taking to the internet to criticize the petitioners.

The weekend solidified Brown’s enduring appeal and his ability to connect with audiences on a global scale. It was a historic moment for both the artist and South Africa’s music scene, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his next return and looking forward for something amazing next year, his 20th year anniversary in the music industry.
