BURNA BOY COVERS BOY.FRIEND.BROTHER’S 10TH ISSUE

Burna Boy is one of the ten cover stars for Boy.Brother.Friend’s milestone tenth issue, themed “Destiny.” Shot by filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson and styled by Stefano Pilati, the cover is part of a ten-part series marking the publication’s fifth anniversary and Summer 2025 edition.

Titled Back to Life, Back to Reality, Burna’s cover strips away the mythology that often surrounds him. Instead of the larger-than-life Afro-fusion icon, what we see is a man that is still, present, and in between. The portrait embraces vulnerability and complexity, a visual extension of the themes that also run through his newly released album No Sign of Weakness.

As with all BBF issues, the editorial resists spectacle and reorients the gaze. Rather than a polished performance of power, Burna is framed in quiet defiance, and as a man choosing how he is seen, rather than performing how he should be.
