BURNA BOY, AYRA STARR AND MORE SNAG NOMINATIONS AT 2026 GRAMMYS

Nigeria’s global music presence received a significant endorsement with the announcement of the 2026 Grammy Awards nominations: three major Nigerian acts, Burna Boy, Davido (featuring Omah Lay) and Ayra Starr (featuring Wizkid), all secured nominations in the category Best African Music Performance.

Burna Boy’s track “Love” earned one nomination, while Davido’s single “With You” (featuring Omah Lay) also made the cut. Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat,” featuring Wizkid, likewise claimed a spot among the contenders. Burna Boy’s album “No Sign Of Weakness” was also nominated for Best Global Music Album, the only Nigerian on the list and his 7th consecutive year being nominated at the awards.

For Nigeria’s Afrobeats‐driven music scene, these nominations are more than individual accolades, they signal the increasing institutional recognition of African music on the global stage. The Best African Music Performance category remains a key barometer for the Recording Academy’s commitment to the continent’s rising creative power.

As the February 1, 2026 ceremony approaches, all eyes will be on how the Nigerian nominees fare, not just in terms of wins, but in how the nominations amplify their global visibility.
