BNXN BREAKS DOWN ‘CAPTAIN’ ALBUM IN NEW CLASH MAGAZINE INTERVIEW

BNXN sat with Clash Magazine to talk about the making of his new album, CAPTAIN. In the interview, he explained the meaning behind the title, his growth as an artist, and the kind of music he wanted to make this time.
He said “Captain” is a nickname his friends gave him a while ago. It started as a joke, but he grew into it and began to see himself as someone leading his own journey. That idea shaped the album, from the sounds he picked to how he worked with producers and collaborators.

The album blends Afrobeats, R&B, street pop, and gospel. BNXN talked about working with people like Seyi Vibez, Rema, Victony, FOLA, and the Soweto Gospel Choir. He chose artists he already connects with, rather than chasing big names just for attention. He also worked with a mix of producers including Kel‑P, SynX, Jiggy, Vampire Craze, BlaiseBeatz, and Gemini Major.

When asked about how he prepares for shows, he said he usually listens to a few songs from the album especially the title track to get in the right mindset. He doesn’t have any wild rituals, but he likes to block out noise before performing.

He also talked about dream collaborations. While nothing is confirmed, he said he’s open to working with global artists who care about storytelling. He mentioned artists like Drake and Kendrick Lamar not because of their status, but because of how intentional they are with their music.

The album has already done well on streaming platforms. Songs like “Cutesy,” “Phenomena,” “Fi Kan We Kan” featuring Rema, and “Very Soon” featuring FOLA were released earlier and got strong reactions. The full project is now out, with 16 tracks that show different sides of him from personal reflection to high-energy party songs.

BNXN said this album feels more focused and complete than anything he’s done before.
