APPLE & ISSEY MIYAKE RECONNECT: THE ICONIC JOBS LINK BEHIND THE NEW IPHONE POCKET

Apple has teamed up with fashion legend Issey Miyake to release a limited-edition “iPhone Pocket”, a 3D-knitted accessory designed to carry your phone, inspired by Miyake’s minimalist “piece of cloth” philosophy. The Pocket comes in two sizes, a long, cross-body version priced at $229.95 and a shorter strap for the wrist or bag at $149.95. Apple says the design explores “the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way,” blending utility with fashion.

But this partnership is more than just a trendy drop, it resurrects a deeper connection between Apple and Miyake. Back in the day, Steve Jobs famously wore custom black mock-turtlenecks made by Issey Miyake, effectively turning them into his signature uniform. Jobs reportedly asked Miyake to design a uniform for all Apple employees, but after that idea flopped, their collaboration continued in a more personal form: Miyake made Jobs “like a hundred” of those iconic turtlenecks.

The iPhone Pocket taps into that same ethos of thoughtful design, simplicity and wearable innovation. It’s not just a phone holder, it’s a nod to Apple’s heritage, and to the designer who helped shape its visual identity in its formative years.
