SZA has officially made her acting debut alongside Keke Palmer in the upcoming comedy “One of Them Days,” which is set to hit theaters on January 24, 2025. This film, produced by Sony Pictures, follows the lives of two best friends and roommates, Dreux (played by Palmer) and Alyssa (portrayed by SZA), who find themselves in a financial bind after Alyssa’s boyfriend squanders their rent money.
The duo embarks on a frantic and humorous quest to gather the funds before eviction.
The film boasts an impressive cast, featuring other notable actors such as Katt Williams, Lil Rel Howery, and Janelle James. Behind the scenes, the project is spearheaded by Issa Rae, known for her work on “Insecure” and “Rap Sh!t,” with Lawrence Lamont directing and Syreeta Singleton handling the screenplay.
SZA, while new to feature-length films, has previously appeared in a 2020 episode of Rae’s “Insecure” and received critical acclaim for her music, including an Oscar nomination for her song “All the Stars” from the “Black Panther” soundtrack.
SZA recently announced on social media that she plans to take a break from performing, which may signal a shift in focus toward her acting career.
The film’s trailer has already generated buzz, highlighting its comedic tone and the chemistry between the two lead actresses, even if most people are wondering why most artists are venturing into movies.
