The feud between Kanye West and Adidas has been highly publicized, stemming from a partnership that was once incredibly lucrative for both parties. This partnership began in 2013 and evolved into a major commercial success, particularly with the Yeezy brand, which was estimated to generate about $1.5 billion in revenue for Adidas annually, with West reportedly earning around $220 million each year.
Tensions escalated significantly in 2022, particularly after West made controversial remarks during various public appearances, including antisemitic comments that drew widespread condemnation. In response, Adidas announced the termination of its partnership with West in October 2022, citing his behavior as inconsistent with the company’s values.
The decision to end the collaboration resulted in a significant financial impact on both sides, with Adidas facing potential losses of up to $1.3 billion due to unsold Yeezy inventory.
Before the official split, West had openly criticized Adidas, claiming they were mismanaging the Yeezy brand and failing to properly support his creative vision.
He also expressed a desire to pursue independent ventures, feeling constrained by corporate partnerships.
Currently, Adidas and Ye have officially settled their ongoing disputes, stating, “We don’t need to fight anymore, no one owes anybody anything anymore. So whatever was history.” The settlement, announced by CEO Bjorn Gulden, confirms that no financial payments were exchanged, with both parties opting to move forward without further claims against each other.
Adidas is focused on selling off approximately $1.3 billion worth of remaining Yeezy products, aiming to clear its inventory by the end of 2024.
