Mercedes-Benz and Moncler took their ongoing collaboration to new heights at the “City of Genius” event in Shanghai on October 19, 2024. The star of the show was the unveiling of “Mercedes-Benz Project G-Class Past II Future,” a cutting-edge art piece created by NIGO, the renowned fashion designer, music producer, and creative director.
This unique project revives the classic 1990s G-Class with a contemporary twist, blending Moncler’s iconic puffer jacket aesthetic with the bold, edgy design of Mercedes-Benz’s iconic SUV. The restoration and reinvention of this G-Class model mark a fusion of automotive excellence with high fashion.
Beyond being an art installation, Project G-Class Past II Future inspired the creation of a limited-edition G-Class model, which will see only 20 units released globally in April 2025.
The limited-edition vehicle stays true to the 90s-inspired design, with features like checkered upholstery, a rear-mounted spare wheel, and black steel wheels that nod to the classic G-Class, while adding modern touches such as a two-tone olive green and grey color palette with gold accents. Inside the vehicle exudes luxury and innovation with high-end finishes and an advanced sound system designed by audio artist Devon Turnbull, offering both technical excellence and aesthetic appeal.
Moncler also previewed an accompanying gender-neutral fashion capsule collection, designed in collaboration with NIGO. This collection will blend 90s influences with modern streetwear styles. It will feature jackets, hoodies, and other streetwear essentials infused with the collaborative spirit of both brands.
The collection is set to launch alongside the limited-edition G-Class in April 2025, offering fashion-forward pieces in a minimalist palette with bold prints and fabrics like raw denim and satin.
The Shanghai event also included contributions from other creative talents like A$AP Rocky, Willow Smith, Rick Owens, and Edward Enninful. These collaborations added depth to the show, highlighting Moncler’s continued exploration of the intersection between fashion, music, and art. The campaign theme, “Past Forward. Where the Future is Driven by the Past,” perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the event, emphasizing how past inspirations are used to fuel future innovations across different artistic domains.
This campaign, aimed at blending the legacy of the G-Class with futuristic elements, will be supported by a global multimedia effort across social media and brand platforms, helping to amplify the creative synergy between Mercedes-Benz, Moncler, and NIGO. With both art and commerce at its core, this collaboration stands as a bold statement in the ever-evolving world of luxury and style.
