Lil Wayne has finally spoken out about being overlooked for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, which will take place in his hometown of New Orleans. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
In a heartfelt message posted on his Instagram, he expressed deep disappointment and shared how much it hurt to be overlooked, especially as he had hoped to perform on such a significant stage. Wayne admitted he wasn’t mentally prepared for the letdown, acknowledging that he had placed himself in that position mentally, believing it was his opportunity. He stated, “That hurt a lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. For just automatically mentally putting myself in that position, like someone told me that was my position.”
He expressed gratitude to his fans for their support, saying they helped him when he was feeling down, but also admitted that the snub “broke” him. Despite this, he is working on himself and moving forward. His exclusion has sparked considerable backlash from fans and notable figures in the hip-hop community, with some pointing to potential behind-the-scenes conflicts as a reason for his omission.
Nicki Minaj, earlier this week, took to twitter to defend Weezy saying, “You don’t know the half of what Lil Wayne has done for me & others. Wayne had Drake & I on his tour w/no papers signed. He was on all of my mixtapes w/no papers signed. This man has literally changed the FACE of hip hop. The hair too. IYKYK. He inspired so many to tat their faces & get locks. Inspired your faves to wanna be a great MC. He never was in this for the money. It’s always been for the love of music.”
