Eminem has stirred up excitement once again, teasing a special release set to drop on Friday, September 13th. The rapper took to social media to announce The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce): Expanded Mourner’s Edition, an extended version of his recent album.
Eminem initially released The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) in July after hinting at new music on social media. The 19-track album, which features hits like “Houdini” and “Tobey,” includes guest appearances from Detroit rappers Big Sean and BabyTron. It also calls back to his earlier career with a skit titled “Guess Who’s Back” and a sequel track to 1999’s “Guilty Conscience,” aptly named “Guilty Conscience 2.”
In a quirky new teaser, Eminem is seen entering a convenience store, picking up a carton of milk, and accidentally dropping it. As the milk spills, viewers notice a “missing” ad for Slim Shady printed on the side of the carton. Afterwards, Eminem leaves the store only for producer Alchemist to pop up behind the counter and warn him never to come back.
The expanded edition of The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) will officially be released on Friday, September 13th, though the exact tracklist is still under wraps.
This announcement comes ahead of Eminem’s anticipated performance at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which air live tonight, September 11, at 8 p.m. ET. The rapper is expected to perform tracks from The Death of Slim Shady for the first time on live television. Eminem is also in the running for eight VMA nominations, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, and Song of the Summer for his hit single “Houdini.” If he takes home just one award, he will surpass Peter Gabriel as the most-awarded male artist in VMA history.
This project marks Eminem’s first full-length release since 2020’s Music to Be Murdered By, and it serves as the final chapter in the Slim Shady saga, closing the book on his infamous alter ego.
