Nigerian label heavyweight Mavin Records has officially signed rising star CupidSZN, marking a key moment for both the artist and the genre. Born Stevenson Njoku Anyinachiso and raised in Port Harcourt, CupidSZN rose to attention by posting freestyles in 2023 and dropped his first independent single on his 20th birthday in 2024.
CupidSZN’s sound is a textured blend of trap-influenced dreaminess and Afrobeats lyricism. As he explained, he “used to trap before … but my dad told me if I wanted to conquer, I had to conquer from home,” leading him to learn Afrobeats from the ground up. His musical influences range from Juice WRLD and Lil Uzi Vert to African legends, and now, under Mavin, he’s crafting a “myth-era,” where each song tells a mythic story.
