At age 82, Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese has achieved a career first, a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards. This unexpected milestone comes from his cameo in Apple TV+’s satire The Studio.

Scorsese appears as himself in the series premiere, “The Promotion,” where he stars alongside Seth Rogen’s character. Critics praised the episode’s sharp humor, and Scorsese’s performance stood out as a standout guest role.
His daughter, Francesca Scorsese, shared her father’s genuine reaction on Instagram via FaceTime. In the clip, Martin is seen smiling and shaking his head while holding his hands over his face out of both shock and joy.
Scorsese now joins a prestigious group of nominees in the same guest actor category as Jon Bernthal, Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, and Anthony Mackie, five of whom also appeared in The Studio. The only nominee for the category not from this series is Bernthal for The Bear.
Though best known for his work behind the camera, Scorsese has already accumulated multiple Emmy wins for directing and producing, most notably for Boardwalk Empire and the George Harrison documentary Living in the Material World. This acting nomination adds a new dimension to his long and celebrated career.
